Have you ever thought about windows, I mean really sit down and think about them? (I’m sure you are thinking that I am absolutely insane and this is proof…but hear me out). Windows are supposed to keep out unwanted things such as bugs, critters, heat and cold. Windows also allow you to see outside, but can also allow the world to peer in.
We live in a very old house and we had very old windows. Windows that did not do a good job keeping out the hot air, keeping out the cold air, keeping in the cool air, keeping in the heat, etc. So, this week, we are in the process of getting our windows replaced. Yeah!!! Something the hub has wanted to do since we moved into our home. And we finally got enough bills paid off that we could afford them. I can no longer stand by the window and feel the warm air coming in. Hopefully we will see a reduction in our heating/cooling bill, especially since gas is supposed to go up 30% this winter and we have gas heat.
Changing course a little bit…we are part of a new Sunday School class at our church (you can check it out here: Ignite) and we are working on sharing our stories in our walk with God. We have heard some people say their story is “colorful”, another called hers “taupe”. Our stories, when shared, are like open windows, people can see parts of our past and present that has shaped us into the being we are. There are areas in my life that I prefer to keep the blinds on because I don’t want others to see, but I know that when we share those things (such as abuse, mental anguish, cancer, etc.) that they can help others get through perhaps a similar situation. I pray that God would give me the words he wants me to share. Sometimes I wish that I had better windows so I could have kept some things out of my life, but then I wouldn’t be the person I am now. I know that God uses all things to make us stronger in our faith.
Back to the window instillation project….he should be finished tomorrow. Which means he’ll be through just in time for the weekend so I can clean windows and clean up the house where he has tracked in and out. But, our home looks so much better. And, with any luck, so will our energy bills!

Loved this post and the connection you made with our lives and windows. Now, could you tell me who is doing yours. We are planning to do the same for our house.
Great analogy! We need our windows replaced too, you’ll have to let me know who you got to do yours and if they did a good job.
Great post! Thanks for sharing these thoughts. Love ya!
